London Transport Museum

Last weekend saw Dan and I take a trip to Covent Garden to visit the London Transport Museum to see the last exhibition for the 150 Years of the London Underground Tube posters.

We started out with a yummy burger at Shake Shack and it was the best burger we'd both had in a long time. The chesesy fries are literally, delicious.

After some nibble, we headed to the museum. After a lengthy wait we headed in to look around.

It didn't take us long to find what we were looking for, rooms and room full of beautiful posters dating back to as early as 1800's. They are so beautiful, with the old type and print screened imagery.

Dan and I liked this one, so much we bought the replica which we'll hang in our flat :)

Something which caught my attention was the old ticket stubs that were used. They are the classic vintage style you'd expect, which is also taking a come back in a lot of graphic design work and on sites such as Etsy and NotOnTheHighStreet.com . This is the style of design which I will always be drawn to, especially because it's so beautiful.

After a few hours of looking around and getting annoyed at children screaming, we headed out and round some shops. A quote which caught my attention that also rings truth.

"Don't be encumbered by history. Go off and do something wonderful"

London: Davie Bowie Exhibition at the V&A

This weekend saw my mum and I going to the V&A Museum to see David Bowie's exhibition. It was absolutely fantastic! I booked tickets in advance so we obviously got straight in (after accidentally cutting the queue without realising..oops!) It took us about two hours to go around and we saw all of his outfits and costumes. We each has headsets which played his music at certain points to correspond with what we were looking at. It was all incredible. Right at the end, we go into this large room which played his live videos and recordings in small intervals. Once the screen stopped, behind them you could see all of his most famous costumes. It was just fantastic. Plus, right at the end when I took my headset off, I managed to get it completely tangled in my curls which both my mum and the security woman had to help un-tangle. Smooth.

Unfortunately, I couldn't take many photos because people were stood around with hawk-eyes making sure you didn't take any. Such a shame!

We bought lots of things from the gift-shop including this plectrum :) 

After the exhibition, Dan met us for lunch at Nando's and we filled our bellies with chicken before heading to Harrods. I planned to take Mum to the chocolate cafe, Godvia -so we did just that. We accidentally got lost in harrods and ended up in the art section looking at moving sculptures for £83,000. Once we found our way and bounced our way through the ever so soft carpets, and having listened to an opera singer leaning over the escalator from a window much like the one of Romeo and Juliet, we found the cafe.

Oh how handsome. 

Mum and I ordered the chocolate fondu with yummy things to dip it. It was absolutely gorgeous. We couldn't finish it all though so we had to eventually admit defeat.

So good! 

After that we headed to Covent Garden and looked around before walking to Trafalgar Square to see the big blue cockerel. Once we stopped there to take a few photos and have a sit down, we headed past downing street and went to see Big Ben. After a few photos there we decided to head home since we were all pretty exhausted.

It was so nice to have my Mum down and spend time with her. She finally got to see mine and Dan's flat which she couldn't stop saying how lovely it was :)

Timbergram Work at Pulse, Earl's Court London

EXCITING STUFF!

I did some work for Timbergram a few weeks ago. Yesterday I went along to the Trade Exhibit to see the Timbergram stall and to see my work featured. The work was featured at Pulse in Earl's Court Exhibition Centre.

I did a Christian range of well known, beautiful bible passages but in a typographic, illustrative style. I also created some other typographic pieces in the style of a letter board at the opticians. You can see my full in the Timbergram catalogue which you can download here: Timbergram's Catalogue 2013 , My designs are featured on pages 58-61 . Apparently there's already been orders for the Christian Range. Check out the other designers too, there's some absolutely beautiful work.

DID- Dialogue in the Dark, Hong Kong

Today Daniel and I experience 'Dialogue in the Dark'. We were taken through a series of every day scenes by someone who is visually impaired in complete darkness. We are taken around by a man named Jack. For 75 minutes we experienced the world in a completely different way. Such a fun, scary and humbling experience. First we went outside and learnt about our surroundings with trees, plants, soil, grass and sand, then we went on a boat trip with wind and rain. This was followed by visiting the town and local shops. Afterwards we travelled to a theatre and listened to some films and music as well as exchanging money to buy drinks in a bar. Doing everything in pitch black with nothing but your hearing, smell, taste and touch is more difficult than it seems. It was absolutely inspiring. You can visit their website here.
