Playing my Jimi Hendrix Vinyl

In a previous post in September, I had bought an original Jimi Hendrix Vinyl, but I didn't have a record player to play it. I'd always wanted an original Jimi Hendrix vinyl as it was on my thirty before thirty list.

Today my lovely Dad dug out his record player and we gave my record a spin!

Thanks, Dad-Cat!

Letters to Santa!

My dad found these letters to Santa that me brother and I did when we were 5 and 7.

ISTD | White Noise | 4′33″

For the ISTD awards this year I chose the brief 4′33″ (4 Minutes 33 Seconds) composed by John Cage.  4′33″ is an inspiring three-movement composition. The piece is a silent piece, which consists of three movements. The idea was that although the piece was silent, you can in fact never be silent; no matter how hard we try. We are always breathing, moving and there is always background noise. The piece purports to consist of the sounds of the environment that the listeners hear while it is performed, although it is commonly perceived as "four minutes thirty-three seconds of silence"

I saw huge potential in this brief which is exactly why I chose it.

Research showed me that white noise can be a very uncomfortable and eerie sound, which can also involve ghostly sounds and voices. This is exactly the reason why I chose it to include in my work. The idea behind my piece is that you read the distorted text whilst listening to the white noise.

The piece has an extract of Don Delillo’s ‘White Noise’. The extract is of a man talking about great men who have died and how they probably did not fear death. The man and his wife then go on to argue about who should die first because they love each other so much neither of them could live without one another.

When listening to the 4 Minutes 33 Seconds whilst reading the distorted text, your mind is open to interpretation of you what you hear and read. Therefore, when each individual reads and listens, each experience will be different and unique.

My world.

I wanted to give another mention to the man in my life.

I'm aware that you probably don't want to read about soppy 'I'm all loved up' crap but I believe my blog description says 'a collection of my thoughts and a creative outlet where I can share my love of different things that also inspire me'

And this is simply sharing my love. - because his love inspires me.

I want to thank this man for being patient, understanding, kind and extremely tolerant.
He endures an awful lot of crazy from me. But he still stands by me and loves me.

He's a wonderful person and I'm proud he's mine. Because face it, who wouldn't want them lips?

Typewriter!

I took photos of my new typewriter but then completely forgot to upload them!

My tutor told me about this typewriter for sale in a charity shop, it just needed the ribbon changing- and it was only £20- Bargain!

It's a Daro Erika Typewriter- It's not too old but it smells vintage and old. I've already completed one project on it (photos to come soon) and I have another project which has been chosen for an exhibition- my 'Fish and Man' piece which was created using an Oliver Typewriter.

I wrote a letter to two of my girlfriends Laura and Fran and one to Sam Winston, of whom replied and we had a good old chat- it's worth writing to designers! I'm hoping to go down to London in the New Year to do a placement with him. Check him out, he's fantastic.

(apologies for the out of focus photograph)

It came with the original beautiful leather case, manual and instructions.

My letter to Sam Winston

If you ever get the chance to buy a cheap typewriter- buy one. They make little grifts far more personal and cute. They're gorgeous pieces of machinery, beautifully crafted and made.

Ed Sheeran Acoustic Cover

This evening I recorded another video, after not having done one in pretty much over 2 years.

This cover is a song called Small Bump by Ed Sheeran. He's an amazing talented young artist and I loved his music so much I had to do a cover. The song is very sensitive and is about a 'Small Bump' developing in its mother when it's cruelly taken away from life. It's a sad story with beautiful lyrics. I hope you enjoy the video. You can see the video on youtube here.

Where have I been?

I've been working the Lincoln Christmas Market! Which is why I haven't updated my blog in a while.
I've been working 12 and even 13 hour days- stood on my feet ushering people across the road safely (around 100,000 people on Saturday!)

The ORANGE team was the best! We had the toughest job ;) But with the help of the police, our work was a success. I met some great people- some weird folks too! The police were hilarious- by the end of the 4 days we were joking around and making fun out of one another. Charlie, Ian, Inigo and Keith, you guys were ACE!

I was listening to the radio we had connected to our ear piece- we had the radios connected to every steward, police officer, ambulance staff and the fire brigade service which gave us something to listen to. 'Orange 1 to orange alpha over.'

On top of that, I got a few freebies! My friend managed to smooth talk the old man to get some flashy toys- WIN!

And not only that but Charlie let me borrow her police hat. I loved her impression of the 'No no no cat'!

All in all- a very fun but tiresome four days. Now I need to rest my foot as my tendon on my heel has seized- wonderful!

Thanks for reading. Over and out.
