London Transport Museum

Last weekend saw Dan and I take a trip to Covent Garden to visit the London Transport Museum to see the last exhibition for the 150 Years of the London Underground Tube posters.

We started out with a yummy burger at Shake Shack and it was the best burger we'd both had in a long time. The chesesy fries are literally, delicious.

After some nibble, we headed to the museum. After a lengthy wait we headed in to look around.

It didn't take us long to find what we were looking for, rooms and room full of beautiful posters dating back to as early as 1800's. They are so beautiful, with the old type and print screened imagery.

Dan and I liked this one, so much we bought the replica which we'll hang in our flat :)

Something which caught my attention was the old ticket stubs that were used. They are the classic vintage style you'd expect, which is also taking a come back in a lot of graphic design work and on sites such as Etsy and NotOnTheHighStreet.com . This is the style of design which I will always be drawn to, especially because it's so beautiful.

After a few hours of looking around and getting annoyed at children screaming, we headed out and round some shops. A quote which caught my attention that also rings truth.

"Don't be encumbered by history. Go off and do something wonderful"

Am I going to be published?! ... An Anthology of Typewriter Art by Barrie Tullet

I was thrilled to recieve an email yesterday from my former Graphic Design tutor, Barrie. I received an email a few months ago asking if my work can be featured in his book 'An Anthology of Typewriter Art'. Of course, I was over the moon and sent my work across.

Then a few weeks later I received an email saying the copyright might not be cleared for the extract of text that I used from the book and they were waiting for confirmation from the publishers. It didn't look too good.

But behold! Yesterday the copyright was cleared and I will now be definitely featured in the book. 
The print run will be approximately 10,000 and it's expected to be published in April 2014 by Laurence King Publishing 'now recognised as one of the world's leading publishers of books on the creative arts.' 

I'm absolutely thrilled to bits and so honoured to be asked to be a part of it.

I won't give away the photograph of the typographic piece I created because I don't want to spoil the surprise ;)

So my colleague sent me this the other week: 'This Advertising Life' .

It is a collection of GIFs that have simply have the title change to something design related.

200th Blog post!! & Interview with Design Juices

This post is special for two reasons, the first one being this is my official 200th Blog Post since starting my blog!

I have an actual real life job!

YES! FINALLY! After working hard, I've just accepted a job as a Digital Designer in London!

As you can imagine I'm absolutely thrilled as now this means my career has finally begun and I can move to London permanently with my other half, Dan.

I'm absolutely over-the-moon! Thank you to everyone who has been supportive these past few weeks. Times have been tough but your love and support has helped me so much. I love you all.

I GRADUATED!!

I DID IT!! I am so proud of myself and everyone who graduated. It was such an emotional and overwhelming day.

And I was able to share it with people I love, though not everyone I wanted to be there could be there.

Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2012

The other day I found out that my entries into the Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2012 (ADAA) only made it to the semi-finals stage. I entered a piece 'If things were different: A Manifesto' into the 'Print Communications' Category. Daniel Haigh and I also entered 'The Rectory Packaging' into the 'Packaging' Category. Unfortunately, due to the The Royal Mail (Ahem, Royal FAIL) this never actually made it to the live-semi finals judging as it wasn't delivered in time. Who know, this piece could have gone very far. None the less!- We were still selected to be semi-finalists out of 5,000 entries, so that is certainly something to be pleased about. Below are the lovely certificates which I shall be printing off and adding to my portfolio. :)

I officially have a BA Hons Degree!!

I'm passing with a 2.1 degree in Graphic Design (BA Hons)

All that hard work has paid off!!
