Nick Mulvey, Scala London

On Tuesday night, Dan and I went out to Scala in London to see Nick Mulvey live. Nick has been on the radio a lot lately and I heard him and instantly loved his voice and music. Luckily, there was still tickets to see him live so I snapped some up quick. They sold out later that day.

Dan and I went to dinner first and then went to the venue.

He was absolutely fantastic and his voice was impeccable. His guitar skills were incredible and had the entire venue absolutely quiet. There's no doubt that I'll be seeing this guy again at some point in the future when he's selling out arenas.

Afterwards, Nick did a meet a greet and I took a cheeky selfie with the guy. He was so chilled and relaxed and was happy to have a chat. A friend actually knew his tour manager and informed us we had a personalised, signed copy of his CD in the back. How nice :)

Arvo Pärt - London Festival Hall - Orchestra

Last night I had the opportunity to go to a live Orchestra concert at London Festival Hall. My kind friend, Nick was so nice to give me his spare ticket so I went along with him. I've never been a fan of orchestral music but I've never seen an orchestra live, so how could I say that I don't like it, if I've never been?

My mind was quickly changed. I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of the brass. It's too harsh for me. The second half was incredible with just the strings and the choir. It was so soothing and beautiful that I could have drifted off into a deep sleep listening to it. It was simply beautiful.

Arvo Pärt is an Estonian composer of classical music and sacred music. Since the late 1970s, Pärt has worked in a minimalist style that employs his self-invented compositional technique, tintinnabuli.

I'd say to anyone that doesn't really Orchestra not to instantly dismiss it. Listen to it live and the experience of the music changes. You can feel the brass in your bones and the strings slowly creeping into your skin with its high notes. It's a whole different experience. Give it a go.

Just over 3 months!... I think? & I miss music!

December 7th marked the 4th month of me being in Hong Kong. I got thinking today, how much I miss music. I occasionally get a bit of me time and I'm able to listen to acoustic music and my favourite old corny tunes. Sitting on the bus to Tai Po I'm also able to blast Jay-Z- Dirt of your shoulder but now since Dan's earphones are broken, we're gonna have to buy some more headphones which are even LOUDER!!

Today was different though- I'm missing playing music and singing so much!! I miss my guitar and I miss singing song with beautiful lyrics about love and loss and life. I miss belting at the top of my lungs when no-one can hear me!

I was thinking about when I used to have 24/7 access to a beautiful piano when I live in Derby and how I haven't played in years. There's one in the church opposite us but I really don't think they'll give us a key just so I can go and play the piano in there.

GAHH I just miss making music!

I was thinking about the first ever guitar teacher I had. He could play acoustic classical guitar like a BOSS. To be honest, I never really practiced, but I guess that doesn't matter now since I'm not really a classical guitar player. I wish I could still read music as good though.

I think this week Dan and I might go out with some friends who are playing at a local bar in Wai Tai or something or other. Maybe I'll get a chance to play and sing. It's not gonna be the same as playing my beautiful elect-acoustic Ibanez though. Man I miss that thing.

Example!

Last night I went to go see Example at the Engine Shed, Lincoln, after buying tickets so my boyfriend could see him. It was a little surprise for him in Summer.


We had a few drinks and headed out. It was packed, and example was fantastic! The atmosphere was immense and it was definitely the best gig I've ever been to in a very long time.

Open Mic - The Jolly Brewer, Lincoln

So I was invited to an open mic session at The Jolly Brewer in Lincoln. Despite the fact that I haven't got up and sung and played my guitar in front of an audience in about 3 years, I decided to give it a go.

I sang 'Pumped up kicks' - Foster the people, acoustic style with my two friends and I sung 'Skinny Love'- Bonny Iver (Ed Sheeran style) Both songs were acoustic.

I had a very lovely free pint after and thoroughly enjoyed it the whole evening. The audience were excellent, warm and inviting. If anyone is ever free on a Wednesday night at about 9pm, I suggest you get yourself down there!!

I will definitely be going again!
